Since opening their tasting room at Bridge Pa just over twelve months ago, Hawke’s Bay winery Salvare Estate has become a “must visit” destination for visitors to the Bay. This was recognised on Wednesday night at the Hawkes Bay Wine Awards with Salvare winning the prestigious Hawkes Bay Cellar Door of the Year Trophy. To top the night off they also picked up a Gold Medal for their 2007 Salvare Hawkes Bay Chardonnay.
“It was a huge night for us” said owner Steve Nathan. “Our cellar door is a critical part of our business. My wife Bev and I wanted to create a cellar door experience which our visitors will remember long after they leave Hawke’s Bay. We are delighted and proud to have picked up this trophy as it is recognition of the effort our small team has put in over the past year” The Cellar Door of the year trophy is awarded to the cellar door which best demonstrates a combination of great customer service, quality wines and local knowledge.
Equally important was the Gold Medal Salvare won for their 2007 Chardonnay given the fact that it is their first Gold medal and the wine, from their first vintage, is made from fruit grown on their home block at Ngatarawa Road. “Being a new winery, winning medals plays an important part in building the reputation of the Salvare brand” said Steve “It is also great that winemaker Elise Montgomery receives this accolade given all the hard work she has put in to making our range of elegant Hawkes Bay wines”
