Puhoi Cottage was a hundred years old on 15th August 2007. It was built by Margaret & Joseph Hendl. Joseph had a major hand in building the hall and church in historic Puhoi Village, a unique and special place. The old Cottage has now been a TeaRoom for nearly 40 years. It's one of the oldest TeaRooms in New Zealand. It is the oldest TeaRoom still serving "Devonshire Cream Teas" in NZ, "proper" Devonshire Teas as featured in Cuisine May 2007 - www.cuisine.co.nz All the scones and yummy cakes are baked at Puhoi Cottage and all the recipes used, have been handed down from owner to owner. Add to that the pretty garden setting and valley views and you get a truly unique experience. A large scone served warm, with jam and freshly whipped cream, and a drink of your choice. All of our teas are leaf teas where possible. We have chosen a Ceylon leaf tea by Dilmah as our House tea because it goes best with our water ("The art of making proper tea"). We also serve Twinings English Breakfast, Earl Grey leaf teas, herbal teas and a range of plunger coffee's including our Puhoi Coffee (fair trade beans).
